The Ames Human Relations Commission (AHRC) and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator (DEI), Casandra Eames, will host a ‘Meet and Greet’ event on Sunday, February 25. The event will take place at Wheatsfield Cooperative, a local Ames business, from noon to 1 p.m. The aim is to engage with the community and collect feedback on local issues. Attendees can share their thoughts in various ways, including writing on post-it notes. There will also be giveaways for children.
Casandra Eames highlighted the value of these events in promoting open discussions on community issues. She thanked Wheatsfield Cooperative for providing the venue. The event will also promote the upcoming ‘Home for Everyone’ award, which honors those who support housing equality. The award presentation will take place in April, during Fair Housing Month.
The AHRC’s goal is to reduce or eliminate discrimination in the community. It works to promote understanding among different racial, religious, and ethnic groups in Ames. It also works with other organizations to create programs that reduce tensions between these groups.
