Saydel School District moves to 4-day school week

POLK COUNTY, Iowa — The Saydel Community School District became the next Iowa school to switch to a four-day school week.

For two years the district has been trying to switch to a four-day school week due to loosing teachers and a decline in enrollment, which has resulted in a decrease in state funding.

At a meeting Monday evening those two years paid off as the Saydel School Board voted unanimously to switch from a five-day school week to a four-day week.

Saydel Superintendent Todd Martin said he was very pleased that the school board approved the plan and believes it’ll have a great impact on the school.

“We really do want to move toward excellence and we know that we’re going to have to step up our game when we’re in school for four days versus five days,” Martin said. “That requires us to be at our very best and our hope is that if we have better time to plan and prepare, both in terms of academically prepared and preparing ourselves mentally and being well, then our teachers will be at their very best, and our hope is that will impact achievement in a very positive way.”
