Des Moines area school staff have nominated three high school students for the Register’s new Student of the Week poll.
Staff from 30 schools in Polk, Dallas and Warren counties are asked each week to nominate a standout student.
The public can vote once a day for Student of the Week through noon on Thursday, Sept. 19. The winner will be announced Sept. 20.
Here are this week’s nominees:
Ellie Baker, Martensdale-St. Marys Junior/Senior High School
Senior Ellie Baker is a varsity cross country runner on the fourth-ranked team in the state, she is a varsity cheerleader and recently started “Best Buddies” at our schools where a high school student partners with an elementary student as a mentor. Ellie does all of this while holding a 4.04 GPA.

Ella Goodrich, Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School
Senior Ella Goodrich is an outstanding student and is working towards her ADM Honors Diploma. She is an active member in Cross Country and Cheerleading. Ella plans on joining the military upon graduation.
