Authorities identify 3 people killed in Polk County crash

POLK COUNTY, Iowa — Authorities have released the names of the three people who died in a two-vehicle crash east of Ankeny Sunday night.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened at the intersection of NE 46th Street and NE 94th Avenue just before 8:00 p.m. when a northbound vehicle on NE 46th failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with an eastbound vehicle on NE 94th Avenue.

Sixteen-year-old Chad Dittmer of Elkhart was driving the northbound vehicle, according to the PCSO.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle was 38-year-old Kolby Drees of Bondurant. His passenger was 34-year-old Sara Tourte of Altoona.

All three people died at the scene of the crash.

The PCSO says evidence and statements by witnesses to the accident indicate speed was a factor in the crash as well as the northbound vehicle failing to stop at the stop sign.

The investigation into the collision is ongoing.
