Home a total loss after early morning fire in Polk County

POLK COUNTY, Iowa — A home is a total loss after a fire broke out early Monday morning in Polk County.

At around 6:22 a.m. the Delaware Township Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire in the 2500 block of NE 53rd Court. When firefighters arrived on scene they found flames coming from the back of the house, the fire department said.

About 15 minutes after fire crews arrived on scene the fire was extinguished. No injuries were reported.

The fire department said the home was vacant when the fire broke out. The house is considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Multiple agencies assisted the Delaware Township Fire Department with the fire, including the Pleasant Hill Fire Department, Altoona Fire Department, Saylor Township Fire Department, Polk County Sheriff’s Office, and MidAmerican Energy.
