Body of 68-year-old man found after house fire in Des Moines on Sunday

The Des Moines Police Department is investigating a Sunday night fire that left one dead in the Waterbury neighborhood.

Des Moines police and the Des Moines Fire Department responded to investigate a report of a fire at a four-plex residence in the 500 block of Polk Boulevard at around 10:55 p.m., Sgt. Paul Parizek said in a news release. Firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the fire in one residence within the building.

Officials found the body of a 68-year-old man inside after the fire was extinguished, Parizek said. They have not publicly identified him.

The Des Moines Fire Department and the Des Moines Police Department are investigating the fire, but officials believe there is no indication of criminal activity, Parizek said.
