Cooler air began moving across the state, along with cloud cover, on Saturday. Temperatures were still well above average on this, the average date of the first freeze in Des Moines.

As everyone knows, rainfall has been hard to come by in recent times. Below, the last time Des Moines has seen selected amounts:
Multiple medium-range computer models have a decent chance of rainfall in Iowa during the Saturday timeframe. In the second image below from Colorado State’s severe weather algorithm, it appears thunderstorms may be possible as well.
The European computer model paints the heavier rainfall over western Iowa, as does the WPC outlook. Still, we’re a week away and things can still change.
