SEP student struck, vehicle stolen by ‘suspicious individual’ on campus

PLEASANT HILL, Iowa — School officials at Southeast Polk High School said a ‘suspicious individual’ loitering in the high school parking lot hit a student and stole the student’s vehicle Thursday afternoon.

According to an email from the district, an individual was in the parking lot by the high school greenhouse after school hours. The email states the individual made contact with a staff member, as well as struck a student and stole the student’s vehicle.

The Pleasant Hill Police Department said the suspect has not been apprehended, but the stolen vehicle was recovered in Illinois. Police said the suspect is not believed to be in the area. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The school district is reminding students and staff to take precautionary safety measures like locking car doors, ensuring valuables are out of sight, being aware of your surroundings, and ensuring building doors are locked and no one is let inside except through the main entrance.
