Zach Nunn, Lanon Baccam go head to head in Iowa’s competitive 3rd Congressional District

Iowans are set to find out if the state’s highly competitive 3rd Congressional District will remain in Republican hands or if Democrats can wrest the seat from GOP control in Tuesday’s election.

The 3rd Congressional District is rated a toss-up by nonpartisan election forecasters. The district covers 21 counties in central and southern Iowa, including the cities of Des Moines, West Des Moines, Winterset, Osceola and Ottumwa.

U.S. Rep. Zach Nunn , a Republican from Bondurant, is seeking a second term in Congress after flipping the seat from Democratic control by less than a percentage point in 2022.

Democratic challenger Lanon Baccam , a former U.S. Department of Agriculture official, is seeking to unseat Nunn.

Nunn has identified inflation, high taxes, government regulation and immigration as some of his top priorities if elected to a second term.
