CLIVE, Iowa (WHO) — Iowa State Librarian Michael Scott was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly sending explicit videos and photos of himself to who he believed to be a minor.
According to the Clive Police Department, Scott was communicating on the app KIK with who he believed to be a 14-year-old male, but was actually a deputy with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Florida. Police said Scott sent explicit photos and videos to the deputy.

In a press release, Chief Mark Rehberg reminded parents to check in with their kids and make sure they know what their kids are accessing on the internet.
“In this day and age, with technology being so ingrained in everyday life, you never really know who is on the other end of an app like this,” Chief Rehberg said. “In this case, it was an undercover deputy, but in many instances, the victims are young children, and these contacts can lead to more serious offenses. This is a good reminder for parents to check in with their kids, see what type of apps they are using, and make sure they are making appropriate decisions to stay safe in digital spaces.”
