It’s back, Iowa. The National Weather Service office in Des Moines posted on social media that chances for snow will return to the state this week.
When is it going to snow in Iowa?
NWS Des Moines said snow chances begin on Wednesday, Nov. 20, mainly concentrated in north and northeastern Iowa. Snow amounts up to a dusting are possible, NWS said, but the timing is still uncertain.
A mix of rain and snow is also expected in southeast Iowa on Wednesday as the system makes its way across the state. NWS expects wind gusts up to 40 mph.
What is the snow forecast in central Iowa?
NWS posted that central Iowa, along with the south and west, will most likely remain dry, but will still see colder temperatures.
Breezy winds will begin in central Iowa on Tuesday, with gusts over 30 mph possible. On Wednesday, those wind gusts will be sustained at 20 to 40 mph. By mid-week, low temperatures will be in the high 20s to low 30s.
Will this be the first snow of the season in Iowa?
While central Iowa hasn’t seen much winter weather yet this season, some locations in the state have already seen enough snow to take out the plows.
