Gov. Kim Reynolds is spending about $10.2 million more in federal funds to support Iowans recovering from opioid addiction.
Using federal American Rescue Plan Act funds, Reynolds said Friday the money will help opioid treatment and recovery providers in Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Des Moines, Dubuque, Mason City, Oskaloosa and Sioux City expand or improve facilities or create sober-living housing options.
“The opioid crisis continues to impact Iowa families,” Reynolds said in a news release. “The grants announced today will strengthen prevention, treatment and recovery efforts, giving Iowans struggling with addiction a chance for healing and a better future.”
In May, Reynolds leveraged $17.5 million in ARPA funds on projects that support Iowans grappling with opioid addiction.
Iowa has received millions of dollars through national settlements with drug manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies. But Reynolds said at the time she was “disappointed” lawmakers never sent her a bill outlining how to distribute the opioid settlement money, leaving $47.5 million unspent.
