POLK COUNTY, Iowa — Polk County has activated its Extreme Temperature plan after dangerous cold moved into central Iowa.
Monday morning, Polk County Emergency Management announced that based on forecast temperatures from the National Weather Service, the plan will likely be in place into Thursday morning.

The plan means area homeless shelters won’t be bound by capacity limits. It also activates warming centers. You can find information on warming center locations here . DART will provide free rides to homeless shelters or warming centers.
