Iowa-Wisconsin Storm Update: Severe Thunderstorms and Snow Possible Until 7 A.M. Wednesday

La Crosse, WI — A strong early spring storm system is set to impact parts of Iowa and Wisconsin through early Wednesday, bringing a mix of severe thunderstorms, accumulating snow, and damaging winds.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, the system will move in Tuesday afternoon and persist through 7 a.m. Wednesday. Thunderstorms capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, and heavy downpours are expected to develop late Tuesday night, particularly in northeast Iowa and southern Wisconsin. A Level 2 “Slight Risk” zone for severe weather includes cities such as Decorah, IA; Prairie du Chien, WI; and Platteville, WI.

Snowfall totals will vary across the region, with central Wisconsin likely to receive 2 to 4 inches of heavy, wet snow. Areas such as Eau Claire, Medford, and Wausau could see even higher totals, especially if more of the precipitation falls as snow instead of rain…
