Ames police: 4-year-old who was ‘accidentally shot’ Monday has died

AMES, Iowa — The Ames Police Department is investigating after a child died in a reportedly accidental shooting Monday afternoon.

Dispatchers received a call just before 2:30 p.m. Monday about a 4-year-old child who was shot in an apartment on South Sherman Avenue. The caller told dispatchers the shooting was accidental, according to police.

Officers and medics arrived at the scene and provided medical care. The child was airlifted to a Des Moines hospital, where they later died…
