Arson Case Against Monroe Man For Damage at Recreation Park Dismissed

A 19-year-old Monroe man accused of being involved with a fire in the men’s restroom at Monroe Recreation Park this past November is no longer facing a 2nd degree arson charge. A motion to dismiss the Class C felony against Clayton Duane Waldrop has been approved by District Court Judge Terry Rickers. The dismissal motion was filed by Jasper County Attorney Scott Nickolson, and was made based on co-defendent Darick Scott Clark’s guilty plea. Monroe police accused both Monroe 19-year-olds of using an explosive device to start the November 1st fire, which caused $2,900 damage.

Clark pleaded guilty to 2nd degree arson and was sentenced March 10th by District Court Judge Rickers to three years probation…
