Iowa Is The Latest State With New Hands-Free Driving Bill

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds made Iowa the 31st state in the country with a hands-free driving law.

The Iowa bill was signed today, a meaningful day for the law to be signed, but it isn’t immediately in effect.

The Governor said, “30 States across the country have passed lifesaving, hands-free legislation, and today Iowa became number 31. It’s especially meaningful that we did so on April 2, exactly two years to the day Roland Taylor was tragically killed by a distracted driver. It was an honor to sign this bill in his memory and in memory of every Iowan lost to distracted driving.”

What Will Be The Fine For Using A Device While Driving In Iowa?

Like any fine, there will be circumstances surrounding the amount of the fine. But, according to the Des Moines Register, the fine will be $100, up from $45 under current law.

However, if a driver is found guilty of causing injury because of distracted driving could be subject to a $500 fine and a possible suspension of their driver’s license.
