Federal courthouse shooting in Des Moines was self-inflicted, police say

DES MOINES, Iowa — An investigation into a shooting incident at the Federal Courthouse is underway in downtown Des Moines.

Sgt. Paul Parizek, spokesperson for the Des Moines Police Department, said a 911 call about the shooting at the courthouse came in a little after 8:30 a.m. The courthouse is located at 111 Locust Street, along the banks of the Des Moines River.

Sgt. Parizek said the preliminary investigation indicates a male employee at the courthouse was injured by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was critically injured in the incident and was transported to a local hospital.
