Iowa State Patrol to be working overtime for 4/20

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – While many families will be celebrating Easter this Sunday, April 20, some people will be celebrating that day for a different reason.

4/20 is a day where people smoke lots of marijuana. 24 states in the U.S. allow the use of recreational marijuana, but in no state can you drive after consumption. However, according to AAA, roughly 85% of cannabis users admit to driving the same day they smoked.

For this reason, the Iowa State Patrol will be working overtime this weekend to ensure the roads are safe.

“It’s just like anything we use for the message of, if you’re gonna be drinking, don’t get behind the wheel,” trooper Karen Yaneff said. “And if it comes down to the point, even if you’re a passenger and you find out that the driver has been using, you’re probably gonna want to make arrangements, because obviously your life is potentially gonna be in danger. So obviously we prefer you not to use, but we know with this weekend it’s potentially gonna happen.”…
