Jurors Find A Des Moines Woman Guilty Of A Drug Delivery Charge in Newton Overdose Death

A Jasper County jury has found a Des Moines woman guilty of delivering five grams or less of heroin to a Newton woman who died from a drug overdose in 2023. But the jurors could not reach a unanimous decision on the County Attorney Office’s claim that the drugs 26 year old Taylor Elizabeth Ann Nelson provided ultimately caused the death of 25 year old Kristen Nicole Ewing. Ewing died at her home on July 9th, 2023. At the scene, officers said they found three rocks of a brown substance that weighed .2 grams and tested positive for fentanyl at the State DCI lab. Officers also testified that they recovered Facebook messages indicating Nelson sold Ewing one gram of heroin for $200 dollars at a nail salon in Des Moines two days before Ewing’s death.
