DES MOINES, Iowa — A wrong-way driver was arrested Thursday night after allegedly leading Des Moines police officers in a chase downtown.
At around 8:45 p.m. a DMPD officer attempted to stop a vehicle that was traveling the wrong-way down Grand Avenue near the Pappajohn Sculpture Park. According to the DMPD, the driver refused to stop and led officers on a chase.

Shortly after the chase started, it ended when the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot near 18th Street and Pleasant Street. Police said an officer ran after the driver and noticed that the driver was armed with a handgun. The foot chase ended in the 1700 block of Woodland Avenue and the driver was taken into custody. The handgun was recovered.
According to the DMPD, an officer that was responding to the chase was involved in a crash with a separate vehicle. The officer was transported to a Des Moines hospital with minor injuries and the driver of the other vehicle declined medical attention…
