DES MOINES — Gov. Kim Reynolds has ordered all flags in Iowa to be flown at half-staff on Saturday to honor Corporal Melvin L. Huff, a U.S. Army Air Forces gunner from Iowa Falls who was killed during World War II.
Huff was reported missing in action in January 1945 near Wewak, Territory of New Guinea. His unit had attacked enemy positions on Cape Wom. Huff was accounted for in July 2024, and he was 19 years old when he went missing.
The graveside services and interment will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Union Cemetery in Iowa Falls. Flags will be at half-staff on the State Capitol Building, flag displays in the Capitol Complex, and all public buildings, grounds, and facilities throughout Iowa…
