Midwest Thunderstorm Watch: Dangerous Winds, Large Hail Threaten Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota Friday Night Until 3 A.M. Saturday

Sioux City, Iowa – A fast-moving line of severe thunderstorms could slam parts of northwest Iowa, northeast Nebraska, and southeast South Dakota with 80 mph wind gusts and hail up to 2 inches in diameter through 3 a.m. Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Severe Thunderstorm Watch No. 470 is now in effect as a potent storm cluster continues moving southeast from the Mitchell, South Dakota area toward Sioux City, Iowa. The system has a history of producing destructive winds and large hail.

Communities along and within 45 miles north and south of a line from Mitchell to just northeast of Sioux City should brace for power outages, falling trees, and dangerous driving conditions on I-29, U.S. 20, and local highways. The strongest winds may knock down power lines or cause property damage in exposed areas…
