FedEx to lay off over 80 employees, company warns

DES MOINES, Iowa — FedEx is laying off 84 employees at a Des Moines facility as part of a years-long initiative to “streamline” and “simplify service.”

A Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice will be issued on June 30 and the layoffs will go into effect in September. According to a company spokesperson, impacted workers from the FedEx Ship Center, located at 700 SW 9th St. in Des Moines, were notified “several months ago.”

Although it is reorganizing the facility’s operations, FedEx says many affected employees will be offered other jobs within the company while providing job placement help, relocation money or severance…
