Iowa’s economy shrinks in first part of 2025

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A new report shows Iowa’s economy shrank in the first quarter of 2025, the second worst rate in the nation.

The report from the U.S. Commerce Department’s Bureau of Economic Analysis shows Iowa’s economy shrank 6.1% compared to the last quarter of 2024. Only Nebraska had a worse rate.

Declines in Agriculture, forestry and fishing accounted for most of the decline. The Iowa Farm Bureau Federation had warned last November that Iowa’s declining Ag economy could cost the state $1.5 billion in losses and 11,400 jobs lost…
