West Des Moines advises against swimming at Blue Heron Beach due to E. coli

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Swimming is not advised at Blue Heron Beach in Raccoon River Park after “elevated” levels of E. coli were measured on Saturday, West Des Moines Parks and Recreation said on Facebook.

Testing on Saturday reportedly found 1,314 colony-forming units of E. coli bacteria per 100 mL, which Parks and Recreation said exceeds the state standard of just 235 units per 100 mL.
