DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines Police say one man is dead and another man is detained following a shooting in the Indianola Hills neighborhood, a residential area on the city’s south side, early Tuesday morning.
The incident took place just before 1 a.m. in the 200 block of Bell Avenue, just southeast of Gray’s Lake, according to Sgt. Paul Parizek, Public Information Officer for the Des Moines Police Department.

Police say the first 911 call about the incident came in at 12:45 a.m. The caller said both the victim and the potential shooter were still on scene. When police arrived, they found a 38-year-old man who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sgt. Parizek said, “So our officers were able to get in here relatively quickly, take the suspected shooter into custody without any incident. Unfortunately, the person who was shot his injuries weren’t survivable and he was deceased at the scene. We’ve got the suspected shooter with our detectives. We’re still working through exactly what happened, seeing if we can get a better understanding of this as the morning goes on. Crime scene unit is going to be out here for a couple hours processing the scene and then we’ll probably have more after lunch.”…
