SNAP provisions in ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ estimated to cost Iowa $1 billion over 10 years

IOWA, USA — Iowa is projected to lose at least $1 billion over the next decade as a result of cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in the “Big Beautiful Bill,” according to an analysis from the Iowa Hunger Coalition released Wednesday.

The budget reconciliation bill cut $187 billion in funding from SNAP, the largest cut in the program’s history. About 270,000 people in Iowa are enrolled in SNAP, which helps low-income Americans buy groceries.
