(KIMT) — After a hot and humid weekend, Monday will be much of the same! A weak cold front passed through early Monday morning, bringing scattered severe storms to southeast Minnesota and North Iowa. These storms are now marching to the southeast, leaving behind ample sunshine and a decent northerly breeze.
With plenty of sunshine overhead, high temperatures will be able to reach the mid to upper 80s. As the afternoon and evening arrives, dew points will be surging to the mid to upper 70s yet again thanks to the sweat from our healthy corn crop.
This heat and humidity will result in heat index values reaching the 105° to 110° mark, prompting a Heat Advisory to go in effect at 12 PM Monday for those along/south of the US-14 corridor. This advisory will expire at 8 PM Monday evening.
Then, we head into tonight, which will be a highly dynamic forecast. According to the Storm Prediction Center, “a derecho is likely across portions of the northern Plains, with several gusts expected to exceed 75 MPH.” A piece of shortwave energy and a strong low-level jet has sparked isolated to scattered storms in Montana early this morning.
