Iowa State Fair getting $20 million upgrades over next 2 years

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa State Fair is getting over $20 million worth of upgrades to the fairgrounds over the next two years. Many of the projects will be finished before the 2025 Iowa State Fair begins next week.

The fair is the largest event in the Hawkeye State, attracting over one million visitors annually.

Notable upgrades:

  • A new sidewalk was added on the east side of East 30th Street between East University and East Grand avenues
  • Additional paved accessible parking in Lot B
  • A pedestrian entrance near the corner of East 30th Street and Maple Street for an area often used by park-and-ride users
  • A new grounds-wide emergency announcement system
