Ankeny man accused of threatening to ‘plow through’ WDM parade

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — An Ankeny man has been arrested for allegedly threatening to ‘plow through’ the Independence Day parade held last month in West Des Moines.

According to court records, at around 7 p.m. on July 3 Westcom Dispatch received a 911 call from a man complaining about the traffic from the parade and claimed that there “wasn’t adequate traffic direction by the police department.” During the call, the man, identified as 23-year-old Ascher Urquhart-McDonald, kept questioning dispatch about the traffic, and then told dispatch that “there’s a big crowd of people and a bunch of police officers that I’m about to go plowing into if I don’t get answers,” court records state.

The West Des Moines Police Department announced on Monday that Urquhart-McDonald had been arrested and charged in connection to the 911 call. He now faces one count of threat of terrorism and is being held in the Polk County Jail on a $5,000 cash/surety bond.
