West Des Moines extended stay hotel residents forced to vacate after fire

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — People living in 90 housing units had to move out on a whim after a fire broke out at Westown Parkway Residences Monday afternoon, according to the Polk County Emergency Management Agency.

A sign on the front office doors informed residents on Tuesday that crews are working to restore power to the building and that the building will be vacated until the sprinkler systems are restored.

Polk County Emergency Management Agency also helped set up a temporary overnight shelter for those displaced at the Des Moines Area Community College – West Des Moines campus…
