It’s been a chaotic couple months for the home goods retailer At Home. In June, At Home announced it would be filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy due to “broader economic and retail-specific market pressures.” Consequently, 26 stores, from California to New York, were revealed to be closing by September 30th, 2025, including a couple in Illinois and Wisconsin.
Then, the company backtracked and said that Wisconsin location, in Wauwatosa, would not be one of the 26 stores that would close. Last week, however, the company stated one of its two locations in Iowa would be shuttering, continuing what has been a tumultuous summer for the struggling retailer.

Per The Des Moines Register, an At Home store in Iowa is now on the list of stores to begin liquidation sales, along with several others:

- 101 Randall Road in Lake in the Hills, Illinois
- 3175 W 3rd Street in Bloomington, Indiana
- 3100 Washtenaw Avenue in Ypsilanti, Michigan
- 2341 Route-66 in Ocean Township, New Jersey
- 190 South 500 West in West Bountiful, Utah
When the At Home in Council Bluffs closes, the last remaining store in the state will be in Clive.
Why is At Home Closing Stores?:
At Home, which is based in Coppell, TX, announced the company has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy due to “broader economic and retail-specific market pressures,” per court documents obtained by USA Today. Consequently, 26 stores, from California to New York, will close by September 30th, 2025, including a couple in Illinois and Wisconsin.
The aforementioned court documents make mention of rising interest rates and “persistent inflation” as additional factors in the company’s decision to declare bankruptcy.
