Des Moines, Iowa – Northern Iowa residents will see unsettled weather Wednesday as scattered showers and a few thunderstorms move across the region. The National Weather Service in Des Moines said the overall severe threat remains low, but periods of rain could affect both morning and evening travel.
According to the agency, sprinkles and light showers will begin overnight Tuesday and continue through Wednesday morning, moving west to east across northern counties. Additional showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to redevelop late Wednesday afternoon and persist into the evening hours.
Cities such as Mason City, Decorah, and Fort Dodge are most likely to see wet conditions during the morning commute, with rain chances increasing again around rush hour. Drivers are urged to use caution on rural highways and expect reduced visibility at times.
