DES MOINES, Iowa — A teen is in custody after police say he led officers on a chase in a stolen car and crashed into a utility pole in the Drake Neighborhood early Tuesday morning.
According to the DMPD, at around 3 a.m. an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Subaru SUV that had allegedly run a stop light at 44th Street and Forest Avenue. When the driver noticed the officer, police say he sped off and a short chase ensued.

The chase lasted roughly four minutes and ended when the driver crashed into a utility pole at the intersection of Beaver Avenue and Forest Avenue, the DMPD said. The driver, identified as a male teenager, allegedly tried to flee from the scene on foot, but was apprehended. The teen was taken to a nearby hospital to be evaluated for any injuries he may have sustained before being turned over to Polk County Juvenile Detention.
The DMPD said that evidence collected so far points to the vehicle, which was confirmed to have been stolen shortly before the attempted traffic stop, was unsecured and a key was left inside. Police also say that the teen is a repeat vehicle theft offender…
