Anxious times for students: Recognizing crucial signs as school begins new year

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Returning to classrooms can bring many anxieties for students, and doctors are sharing important signs to look out for.

Dr. Nate Noble with the Blank Children’s Developmental Center says the biggest contributing factor of anxiety is the fear of the unknown that comes with returning to classes.

“Even though kids are familiar with school, they’re not familiar with this school year,” Noble said. “Time runs linear, in a linear fashion, and they haven’t experienced their grade before, so I think it’s the newness of the environment, but simultaneously, it’s the loss of an environment that they could anticipate and felt comfortable with.”…
