3 teens charged in online marketplace meet-up that turned into armed robbery

DES MOINES, Iowa — Three teens are now facing charges after police say an online marketplace meetup turned into an armed robbery.

Just before 10 p.m. Wednesday officers with the Des Moines Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 2800 block of East 50th Street. According to the DMPD, responding officers encountered the victim, who said he had arranged a meet-up online with someone who wanted to purchase clothing items. The victim told police that when he arrived at the meeting location there were three other individuals with the buyer. As the purchase unfolded, two of the people produced guns and then robbed the victim. One person was taken into custody at the scene.

A short time after the reported robbery, officers stopped an Uber that contained three people believed to be the robbery suspects. The DMPD said that the suspects ran from the vehicle. Two of the suspects were apprehended, but the third remains unidentified.

The three suspects arrested, all identified as teenagers, have been charged with first-degree robbery, the DMPD said. The two suspects who allegedly fled are also facing a charge of interference with official acts…
