DES MOINES, Iowa – The Des Moines Police Department is asking for the public’s help to get an unsolved murder case across the finish line.
In June of 2024, officers responded to a report of a shooting at Ashworth Park. Officers found 34-year-old Courtney Mundy-Gonzalez suffering from a gunshot wound. She died at the hospital four days later.
More than a year later, an arrest still has not been made in the case. Police say that during this time, they’ve executed dozens of search warrants and interviewed more than twenty witnesses. They say those witnesses have not been forthcoming, which is stalling charges.

“There were over 100 witnesses there, and we have talked to a lot of them, not everybody’s going to be in a spot where they can say, yeah, this is exactly what I saw. But we know there are people out there who saw exactly what happened, the circumstances right before the gunfire, and that’s all we need. We’ve got a lot of ideas and a lot of information telling us who was there, we just need to know what people were doing while they were there,” said DMPD Sergeant Paul Parizek…
