Americana officially closes its doors: Owner reflects on memories made, talks about what’s next

DES MOINES, Iowa — Americana, a popular brunch spot in downtown Des Moines, officially closed its doors after 14 years in business on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Owner Scott Carlson told Local 5 he scouted the space that Americana is currently in two years before opening, and he decided to purchase it once the Pappajohn Sculpture Park was built across the street.

“You can come here at brunch, then you can take a walk around the sculpture garden,” Carlson said. “Those synergies won’t be here because that was part of the beauty of Americana.”…
