West Des Moines receives $5M Destination Iowa Grant for new event center at MidAmerican RecPlex

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — The City of West Des Moines said on Friday it has received a $5 million Destination Iowa Grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority to help build a city events center that will be attached to the MidAmerican RecPlex.

Construction of the expansion, currently named the City of West Des Moines Events Center, is slated to begin in November and finish up in early 2027.

With 35,000 square feet of space and 3,000 available seat, the center will be capable of hosting a variety of events, including regional and national sporting competitions, concerts, conventions and community celebrations, the city said.
