Strike looms for Urbandale bus drivers, but not all union members want to participate

URBANDALE, Iowa — On Monday evening, union steward and Urbandale bus driver Rachel River requested that the Urbandale School Board ask Durham School Services (DSS) — the school district’s transportation company — to negotiate better wages and retirement benefits.

River says this comes after months of not being able to reach an agreement, and that drivers have been without a contract since Sept. 11.

“Durham is forcing us into an outcome of choosing between our students and putting food on the table for our kids at home,” River said at the Monday school board meeting…
