Bird flu detected in Iowa; no cases in Illinois dairy cows

Illinois state officials are celebrating a public health milestone – there are no known cases of bird flu in dairy cows in the state.

An outbreak of bird flu impacted states across the country in 2024. Illinois was one of the state’s involved but no longer has any current cases. The Illinois Department of Public Health encourages people to remain cautious around wild birds; bird flu naturally spreads through wild aquatic birds around the world.

In Iowa, Gov. Kim Reynolds announced a disaster proclamation in Calhoun County. Bird flu was detected in a commercial turkey flock. The state will help monitor and contain the spread of the disease. They say it remains safe to eat poultry products…
