Popeyes Sues Iowa Franchise Owner Over Unauthorized Trademark Use

Popeyes corporate has filed a federal lawsuit against Asif Poonja and Jam Equities, the owner of five Popeyes locations in Iowa, including a restaurant on Merle Hay Road in Des Moines. The company alleges that the franchisees have continued to use Popeyes’ trademarks and operating systems without authorization.

According to court documents, previous agreements between Popeyes and Poonja’s group were terminated. Despite this, the restaurants are reportedly still operating under the Popeyes brand.

The lawsuit seeks to prevent Poonja and Jam Equities from using the Popeyes name or systems and asks the court to bar them from opening or operating any Popeyes restaurants within a 10-mile radius of the current locations for the next two years…
