Investigation finds completely sober drivers charged with OWI, with no tracking system in place

(KCRG) — Completely sober Iowa drivers are being arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated, according to a months-long investigation that found no system tracks how often it happens.

Des Moines OWI attorney Bobby Rehkemper said he handles 10 to 20 cases each year involving drivers charged with OWI when they were completely sober.

“This is not a one-off situation. This probably happens every night somewhere sometime,” Rehkemper said…
