ARL rescues over 160 animals from several properties in just 2 weeks

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Animal Rescue League of Iowa announced on Thursday that it’s rescued over 160 animals in several large rescues in just under two weeks.

The ARL said it was first called to northwest Iowa to help authorities rescue 12 animals — seven dogs and five cats — from a property. According to the ARL, the animals were covered in fleas and were suffering from skin and ear issues.

Just days after that rescue, the ARL said it responded to a property in southeast Iowa to assist in the rescue of 59 animals. In total, the ARL rescued 44 barn animals, 14 dogs, and a cat. The ARL said the dogs were found trapped in dirty outdoor pens that had no shelter. A pony that was also rescued from the property had overgrown hooves that were starting to curl, the ARL said.

Shortly after the rescue in southeast Iowa, the ARL said its team headed to northern Iowa to help authorities remove 63 animals from a licensed breeder. According to the ARL, 40 dogs, 15 rabbits, and eight cats were living in some of the worst conditions its team had ever seen.
