Phones Should Be Allowed in School

Do you or your classmates bring cell phones to class? A new Iowa law bans all cell phone usage during instructional time in all Iowa schools. But some people believe that students should not be allowed to have phones in class because they can be a distraction. However, cell phones should be allowed in school because they help students to do online homework or read, as well as look up questions they have.

While phones in class can be a distraction in the classroom, they can also be a powerful learning tool. Students can Google questions they have, and they can read online books and do digital homework. They can use their phones to take pictures, and videos for art class, and photography. Kids can text parents about after school plans as well. Kids can also play online learning games and interact with other classmates. Kids can text each other about what they’re doing in class and they can tell each other what to bring.

Phones can be used for medical emergencies. Some kids have diabetes and they need to check their blood sugar with their phone. And if an intruder were to break in then people could call the police, or notify their parents, but if they didn’t have their phones then they wouldn’t be able to notify anybody that something is wrong. If someone were to get sick, or have a seizure and nobody had a phone to call for help then how would the EMS know? As you can see, phones can also help save lives and time in case of medical emergencies…
