West Des Moines Water Works (WDMWW) is considering a 3% water rate increase for 2026, raising household costs from $6.78 per 1,000 gallons to $6.98.
Why it matters: The additional revenue would help pay for projects to increase the region’s water capacity, including Saylorville and Grimes plant expansions, says Christina Murphy, WDMWW general manager.
- WDMWW is a part of the regional Central Iowa Water Works, which formed around a year ago.
State of play: Murphy said the proposed rate increase would raise the average household’s monthly bill — based on 4,000 gallons of water use — by about 80 cents.
- Those households would see their bill rise from $31.85 to $32.65.
