DES MOINES, Iowa — More and more people are asking for help purchasing pet food, ever since November SNAP benefits didn’t go out at the beginning of the month.
It’s been about a week with no SNAP benefits, and pet assistance organizations are just beginning to feel the effects. They aren’t for certain whether they’ll be able to handle higher demand as time goes on.
Every Saturday, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., people pull up to The Pet Project Midwest Des Moines pet pantry to get free pet food. All it takes is filling out an application to get a bag that same day, and volunteers say they saw a greater need this past Saturday…
