DES MOINES, Iowa — An event hosted since 1979 at Living History Farms took off Saturday morning with participants running through 300 years of history.
The Living History Farms Race covers a five mile course around the acres and the 1876 town of Walnut Hill.

It was a cold and rainy morning, but participants already expected to get wet and muddy while crossing through creeks and running through the mud. Throughout the race, runners passed by homesteads, live horses, cows, sheep and pigs.
