RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has joined forces with Attorneys General in Iowa and Nebraska to call for a federal investigation into large oil refiners that may be sidestepping the Renewable Fuel Standard program.
In a joint letter sent to the U.S. Department of Justice, Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency, and Securities and Exchange Commission, the Attorneys General urge the agencies to take a closer look at refiners who report high profits to the SEC while simultaneously applying for economic hardship exemptions from RFS requirements.
The RFS program, a cornerstone of President Trump’s national energy policy, mandates that large refineries blend a specific quota of ethanol into their fuel production.
